What these interviews test
The National Association of Colleges and Employers defines career readiness through competencies including communication, critical thinking, teamwork, professionalism, leadership and technology. Internship interviewers rarely have work history to test, so they look for evidence of these in classes, projects, clubs and part-time jobs.
That means your stories carry the interview. A group project, a club budget or a shift at a restaurant can all show initiative and reliability, if you say what you did and what resulted. Show that you learn fast and ask good questions.

How to prepare
- List your evidence. Five stories from classes, clubs and jobs, each with a result.
- Do a full mock interview. Say answers aloud. Reading in your head hides nerves.
- Prepare questions. Three about the work and the team.
- Test your video setup. If it's remote, check camera, light and sound the day before.
Then say your answers out loud. In an AI mock interview the interviewer asks your role's questions and follows up, and you see where you rambled, rushed or hedged.
